Mirror Illusions

In a small powder room using large mirrors is a great option to open up a small space. "We designed a custom wall to wall frameless mirror to give the illusion of a larger space. The two inside panels open for extra storage, leaving the outer panels the perfect spot for matching nickel sconces" says interior designer Ili Hidalgo Nilsson of Terracotta Design Build.

High Contrast

Contrasting colors make a bold and dramatic statement. Interior designer, Ili Hidalgo-Nilsson of Terracotta Design Build says, "since it's such a small space, this powder room was the perfect place to go glam with decadent finishes like that deep teal wallpaper and Ann Sacks tile - it's a perfect little jewel box!"

Colorful Vanity

Try using a striking color in your powder room that will set your space apart from the rest. "Choose a bold color for a powder room and while you're at it, make it high gloss," says Hidalgo-Nilsson.

Striking Wallpaper

Bringing a fun wallpaper into your half bath will make the space unforgettable. "Unlike a full bath, the powder room is the perfect place to incorporate high-impact design items that may not play well with steam, like a punchy wallpaper and dramatic pendant light," says Hidalgo-Nilsson.

Jazz Up the Hardware

An inexpensive upgrade with a big impact, is upgrading your powder room's hardware. "Chunky gold hardware adds an elegant touch to a classic vanity," advises Hidalgo-Nilsson. "It's an easy design trick that can make a huge impact."

Lighting Is Everything

In a bathroom, lighting is essential and can significantly enhance the design. "Three sconces are better than two - one more than the expected two. The extra centered sconce balances the space and provides more light," says Hidalgo-Nilsson.

Dramatic Patterns

Have some fun with the wallpaper and "seize the opportunity to use a small space for a super fun repetitive wallpaper pattern," says Terracotta Design Build interior designer Ili Hidalgo-Nilsson. Fun Fact: "The framed artwork in the image is a vintage photograph of Mick Jagger leaning on a wall of the same 'Queen of Spain' wallpaper."

Dress Up The Shelving

Using a non-traditional shelving will give your powder room a unique edge. "Open shelves finished in black lacquer with brass brackets dress up this small space creating glamorous storage," observes Hidalgo-Nilsson.
