Where did the codecs go and why did they get abroad when I upgraded to Windows 7? So if I sympathise what you're recommending me to do (download and utilize Third Party Software) is to become to a potentially dangerous outside source and download drivers which "can cause serious problems that may foreclose your reckoner from booting properly." That doesn't audio like a solution. I've spent my money to upgrade to what sounded to exist the answer to all my Windows Vista woes, but now I take certain "side effects" for having done so. Why can't Microsoft and the computer manufacturers work to provide a guaranteed and safety solution to this problem. From what I've read, I'm non the only one experiencing this.

Thanks for the reply! I take done everything yous've mentioned already including installing two different tertiary party players and accept had no luck playing Blu Ray. Like I said, audio CD's and DVD's work fine. The blu ray discs are but not recognized and cipher happens. The bulldoze sounds like it'south trying to read but zilch happens. I went ahead and took HP'southward communication and removed Windows 7 and reinstalled Windows Vista (I was drastic to take the ability to play BluRay movies). That besides proved to be a disaster. Same problem but with all the negatives of Vista. One of the first things I did was check the device manager and it has no problems. There is no exclamation point side by side to the device and the drivers are all updated. What adjacent? I've ordered a system recovery disk from HP hoping that what was originally on the calculator may take been removed when I installed Windows 7. I have spent hours on the phone and online with HP and they're simply not very supporting. They desire me to render the laptop to them for repair but at an insane cost because it's over a year quondam and out of warranty.

This would explain why the drive works for the other formats and not Blu-ray.

Blu-Ray requires a video card driver that is HDCP compliant. Did yous install the correct Windows 7 video menu drivers.

I no longer have Windows 7 on my laptop. I reinstalled the original Windows Vista OS (as per instructions of HP) and still naught. What is HDCP?
